ID Card Printer Prices in Oman
Last updated: May 2026
Machine prices, running costs, and what each card actually costs to print — based on real 2026 pricing in OMR
With over 10 years of experience guiding clients, installing, and supplying ID printers to over 100 clients across Oman, we advise schools, gyms, facility management companies, real estate offices, clinics, universities, training centers, factories, ministries, banks, and oil and gas companies.
Essentially, over 80% of businesses can use direct-to-card ID printers. These range anywhere between 350 and 600 OMR, depending on your budget, and can easily last over 4 years. They can also be managed by admin staff with little involvement from IT staff.
For ministries, government organizations, banks, and high-security environments that require edge-to-edge printing, sharper photos, and higher-security card requirements, we suggest retransfer printers. These cost anywhere from 1,000 OMR to 1,500 OMR, and the cost can increase depending on software and integration requirements.
Below, we have prepared a guide for procurement teams, IT teams, and admin staff to make an informed decision.
Which ID Card Printer Should We Buy?
There are only two types of ID card printer. Everything else is marketing.
Direct-to-Card (DTC)
- Prints directly onto the PVC card
- 300 DPI resolution
- Leaves a tiny white border around the edge
- Affordable machine + affordable supplies
- Perfect for: employee badges, visitor passes, gym memberships, school IDs, hotel key cards
Retransfer
- Prints onto a clear film first, then heat-fuses it onto the card
- 600 DPI resolution — edge-to-edge printing, no white border
- Needs two consumables: a colour ribbon AND a retransfer film
- Higher machine cost + higher running cost
- Perfect for: government IDs, national ID programmes, banking cards, high-security access cards, smart card encoding

How Long Will the Printer Last?
Direct-to-card print heads are rated for approximately 30,000 prints by manufacturers. On a dual-sided card that counts as 2 prints, so roughly 15,000 dual-sided cards.
For a business printing 500 cards per year, that is 30 years of print head life — the machine will be obsolete long before the head dies.
For a business printing 5,000 cards per year, expect 3–6 years of solid service with proper cleaning and maintenance.
Retransfer printers tend to last even longer. We have machines installed 5+ years ago — such as Zebra ZXP Series 7 and Entrust Datacard units — still running without issues.
What Ribbons, Cards, and Supplies Do We Need?
Every printer needs:
- Colour ribbon (YMCKO or YMCK) — the ink. Prints 250–1,000 cards depending on model.
- Blank PVC cards — standard CR-80 size, 30 mil thickness. Box of 500: 60–80 OMR.
- Cleaning kit — model-specific. Use every 500 prints, or once every 30 days if the printer is idle.
Retransfer printers also need:
- Retransfer film — the clear film that fuses to the card. Separate from the ribbon.
Optional accessories:
| Item | Qty | Price (OMR) |
|---|---|---|
| Branded lanyards | 100 pcs | 50 |
| Badge holders | 100 pcs | 50 |
| Badge reels (retractable) | 100 pcs | 50 |
Can Admin Staff Operate the Printer?
Direct-to-card printers: Yes
Any admin staff can operate a direct-to-card printer. No IT knowledge required. We train your team during installation — it usually takes 30 minutes to learn. Load cards, load ribbon, open the software, click print. That is it.
These machines sit comfortably on a reception desk. Hotels, schools, gyms, clinics, real estate offices — a receptionist can print a visitor badge in under 30 seconds.
Retransfer printers: Mostly yes, with a caveat
Day-to-day printing is straightforward. But retransfer printers occasionally need a slightly more hands-on person. Cards can get stuck, film can jam inside the machine, or the ribbon can snap if the retransfer lamp overheats during extended print runs.
These are not complex problems, but they are not "restart the printer" problems either. Someone needs to open the machine and clear the jam.
How Fast Can We Print ID Cards?
Manufacturers publish cards-per-hour numbers. Here is what matters in practice:
| Printer | Manufacturer Speed | Real-World Single Side | Real-World Dual Side |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heidi CP55-S | ~180 cards/hour | ~20 seconds | N/A (single-sided) |
| Matica MC310 | ~180 cards/hour | ~20 seconds | N/A (single-sided) |
| Evolis Primacy 2 | ~230 cards/hour | ~16 seconds | ~24 seconds |
| Evolis Agilia | ~150 cards/hour | ~24 seconds | ~38 seconds |
| HID Fargo HDP6600 | ~230 cards/hour | ~16 seconds | ~26 seconds |
| Matica XID 8600 | ~120 cards/hour | ~30 seconds | ~45 seconds |

Installation pricing
| Business Size | Examples | Installation Cost (OMR) |
|---|---|---|
| Small (5–10 staff) | Clinic, real estate office, gym, yoga studio, school, small hotel | 100 |
| Medium to large | Ministries, banks, oil & gas, enterprise with IT teams and system integrations | 200 – 500 |
The higher cost for large organisations covers coordination with multiple departments, IT security requirements, network configuration, and integration with existing systems (access control, HR software, visitor management).
What Maintenance Is Required?
Cleaning schedule
- Medium to high volume (50+ cards/week): Clean every 500 prints using the printer's cleaning kit.
- Low volume or idle printers: Clean once every 30 days minimum. Even if you do not print, dust enters the machine and affects print quality.
- Dusty environments (warehouses, construction offices): Clean more frequently — every 300 prints or every 2 weeks.
Common issues in Oman
Dust. The biggest enemy. Small particles cause white spots or lines on printed cards. Regular cleaning prevents this.
Heat. Retransfer printers can overheat during extended runs. If printing more than 100 cards per day, place the machine on a separate desk with airflow — do not enclose it in a cabinet.
Idle machines. A printer left unused for weeks collects dust internally. Run a cleaning card before your next print batch.
